John Stewart is entering the DC Universe’s theatrical arena with a rare asset. Aaron Pierre, who plays the Green Lantern in HBO’s Lanterns, believes one certain thing from the series gave him a critical edge before filming Man of Tomorrow.

Pierre recently spoke about transitioning from Lanterns to the big screen. While he remained tight-lipped on story specifics, the actor explained how the HBO drama’s demanding production schedule became an unexpected gift.
“I can’t say much, but what I can say is what a gift it was to have had six months consecutively of six day weeks and a minimum of 12 hour days to live with John and excavate his character before going into Man of Tomorrow,” Pierre told ScreenRant.

That immersive process gave the actor a clarity he might otherwise have lacked. Without Lanterns, Pierre suggested, he would have been “discovering in real time, in a very quick pace, who John was.” Instead, he came to the Man of Tomorrow set already grounded. “I went in there with a calmness and a steady hand that I’m very grateful for,” he added.
Lanterns Season 1 currently explores John Stewart’s complicated partnership with Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan while serving as an origin story for Pierre’s younger Green Lantern. The series jumps between 2016 and 2026, leaving room for the remaining episodes to further position John for his theatrical debut.
Moreover, plot details for Man of Tomorrow remain under wraps as production continues. However, John Stewart won’t be the only established DCU hero joining David Corenswet’s Superman. Xolo Maridueña will return as Blue Beetle, while Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner also stars after his Lanterns arc.
The film will see Superman team up with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor against Brainiac, with Milly Alcock back as Supergirl. Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific are also reportedly involved.
