Sandra Hüller has been all over German cinema for years and finally earned a well-deserved Oscar nomination just two years back.

In 2023, she starred in two Academy Award-winning films — Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest — and has now received yet another prestigious honor.

Her latest movie Rose recently premiered at this year's Berlin Film Festival, where Hüller, 47, just took home the gender-neutral Best Leading Performance award for her acclaimed turn as a 17th-century woman living as a man in director Markus Schleinzer’s historical tragedy, Variety reports.

It was Hüller’s second win at the Berlinale, as she nabbed Best Actress exactly 20 years ago for her feature film debut in Requiem, the magazine also reported on Saturday, Feb. 21.

"I liked the idea of portraying someone like this and of the possibility of creating a kind of monument, a testament to her. I also wanted to know whether I could pull it off," Hüller told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview article published Feb. 14. "Because I found it genuinely challenging to play someone who disguises themselves like this and has this life story. It wasn’t something I’d done before."

The renowned performer — who has portrayed male characters before — continued, "In theater, taking on a male role is something different than in film. [On stage], it’s clear I’m a female actor playing the role, and you can approach it on different levels other than the realistic one we’re dealing with in this film. Especially here, where the character’s life is in danger if she’s discovered. That creates a different tension, and it’s a different task [as an actor] both physically and mentally. So this was riskier, and that made it an interesting exploration to find out what’s actually required."

The Berlinale has been graced with Hollywood star power leading up to Saturday's awards ceremony. On Valentine's Day, Dua Lipadazzled on the red carpet alongside fiancé Callum Turner for his festival premiere that night.
