Happy birthday, Prince Louis!

Today, the youngest member of the Wales crew celebrates his eighth birthday, and in typical fashion, the moment was commemorated with a special post on Princess Kate and Prince William’s official Instagram account.

“Happy birthday, Louis! 8 today! 🎈,” the proud parents wrote in their caption. Check it out below.

The new photo, courtesy of Kensington Palace, sees the little royal standing by the beach in a blue quarter zip with white fleece lining and red trim along the cuffs of the sleeves, layered over a navy polo. He smiles and crosses his arms in front of him as he poses in front of some splashing waves.

A few years back, the Prince and Princess of Wales made it a tradition to share a new shot of their children on their birthdays (they’re also parents to Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 10). And many of these photos have been captured by Kate herself.

This particular portrait was taken by photographer Matt Porteous during the family’s recent vacation to the seaside area of Cornwall.

However, that wasn’t the only post Kate and William shared this year. A few hours after posting the portrait, the royal couple also uploaded a video, presumably from the same trip, of Louis engaging in a series of seaside activities, from digging in the sand to swimming in the water, playing games, and more.

“Thank you for all the birthday wishes for Prince Louis,” they wrote. “8 is great!”
