The homes will be built to the north of Brackley, where other new-build developments have been created

Plans to construct 450 homes on the edge of a Northamptonshire town have been approved, despite residents' concerns that it could cause "permanent harm" to the local area.

West Northamptonshire Council's planning committee voted in favour of the plans, to the north of Brackley, at a meeting on Tuesday.

The site, close to the recently completed Radstone Fields development, received 39 letters of objection from local residents, and further objections from the town council and others.

Another application for 700 homes adjoining part of the site was recently granted planning permission at appeal.

The new site, put forward by Mintondale Developments Ltd, will provide 40% affordable housing, play areas, public open space and land for a cemetery.

Plans to use the earmarked land for allotments until a cemetery would be required were dropped, over concerns they could end up being protected under planning policy, and use as burial grounds would not come to fruition.

A local resident asked the committee to consider the scale of development already taking place.

She said both applications together would effectively more than double the number of houses in the immediate area.

She warned the route past the existing residential homes "would fundamentally change the function and character of our street", and said there was already severe parking pressure locally.

A statement read on behalf of Peter Frampton, the agent for the application, said: "Radstone Fields is a highly attractive place to live and this development represents a logical extension to the development, allowing for active travel to the primary school and local centre and suitable connections beyond."

Six committee members voted in favour, with one against, and four abstentions.
