The Correspondent is coming to the big screen!

The bestselling 2025 debut novel by Virginia Evans, which has sold more than one million copies worldwide, will be adapted into feature film, Deadline reported, in which Jane Fonda has already signed on to star. Lionsgate acquired the adaptation rights, winning a bidding war between seven studios vying for the title.

Evans' novel follows Sybil Van Antwerp, a retired lawyer who writes letters to understand her world and herself — to loved ones and figures of admiration alike, plus to "one person to whom she writes often, yet never sends the letter." The clever, opinionated protagonist is content in her correspondence routine until a slew of incoming letters threaten to uproot her foundation.

"When letters from someone in her past force her to examine one of the most painful periods of her life, she realizes that the letter she has been writing over the years needs to be read and that she cannot move forward until she finds it in her heart to offer forgiveness," according to the novel's official synopsis.

The film adaptation is set to be produced by Fonda and Todd Lieberman (through his Hidden Pictures Media). Cat Vasko is slated to write the film's script, and will serve as an executive producer alongside the novel's author.

“This book is a phenomenon," said Lieberman, per Deadline. "To be invited in alongside the legend Jane Fonda, with my Lionsgate partners and Cat, is a thrilling honor — and we all can’t wait to have moviegoers experience the same catharsis that so many book readers already have.”

Lieberman recently produced The Housemaid, another book adaptation starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, alongside Carly Elter.
