The Tuesday nap is the mount of good amateur rider Henry Callan
It’s low-key racing today ahead of the Sky Bet Ebor Festival at York that starts on Wednesday, runs until Saturday and features the Juddmonte International tomorrow. Nevertheless, there are a couple of horses who interest me today, including a nap pick who gets the benefit of a top amateur rider.

2.30 Lingfield – Class 5 Amateur Jockeys’ Handicap (2m)
Regular readers of this daily tipping column will know I’m a fan of the amateur jockey Henry Callan, who is from a family steeped in racing and rides like a professional.
Callan rides Diamond Bay (nap) here. This horse is an exposed eight-year-old who has found winning difficult as he has got older, but he’s not in bad form and he is a course-and-distance winner.
In a weak race, under suitable conditions and with the advantage of such a good pilot for the race type, Diamond Bay has a fair chance of getting his head back in front.

Selection: 2.30pm Lingfield – Diamond Bay (nap) ⭐⭐⭐
7.30 Wolverhampton – Class 5 Handicap (6f)
I’m interested in the Jack Channon-trained Sargent Dennis. He has had only five starts, finishing second in one of those in a novice race over this track and trip.
This horse subsequently won a maiden novice at Windsor, despite being caught on the outer from a wide draw and still looking a little green. He finished almost three lengths clear of runner-up Percy’s Star, who has won subsequently and also lines up in this race.
On his only start since, Sargent Dennis was a little disappointing at Doncaster, but he had been off for 73 days and shaped as though he needed the run. He was due to run in a Class 4 contest at Glorious Goodwood (but was a non-runner) and still has the potential to prove better than today’s level.
Selection: 7.30pm Wolverhampton – Sargent Dennis ⭐⭐
